Technology

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT)

Superstition Springs Endodontics is a leader in the incorporation of cone beam technology (CBCT) into the practice of endodontics. The decision to invest in this technology came after a extended review of the technology, research and clinical applications of CBCT in endodontics.

Like a traditional CT or CAT scan, CBCT creates a 3D image by rotating around the patient while taking an xray. A computer then manipulates this data to create a 3D view of the subject. Unlike a CT scan, CBCT takes this image in a single pass with very low dose of radiation. For more information regarding CBCT, click here.

The clinical applications of CBCT in endodontics include:

  1. Aid in endodontic diagnosis
  2. Canal morphology
  3. Evaluation of root fracture
  4. Evaluation of root resorption
  5. Evaluation of sinusitis of dental origin
  6. Presurgical assessment
  7. Evaluation of non-endodontic pathology
  8. Evalute healing of endodontic teeth
  9. Evaluate healing of treatment of immature roots
  10. Assist with implant planning for non-restorable teeth

At Superstition Springs Endodontics, we are specialists in saving teeth. The CBCT is another diagnostic tool to allow us to make important decisions about saving teeth. Doctors and patients who are committed to saving natural teeth, will be able to benefit from this new technology.

Dental Operating Microscope

The dental operating microscope (DOM) has rapidly become an everyday tool in every aspect of endodontics. Treatment that was once dictated by "feel", can now be visualized. The operating microscope aids in the location of hidden canals, negotiation of calcified canals, diagnosis and treatment of cracks/fractures, repair of iatrogenic damage, removal of separated instruments, post removal, removal of caries, documentation, patient education and in the placement of restorative materials. Every aspect of endodontics is improved with microscopy. Until you have seen a tooth through the microscope, you don't know what you are missing!
